Creativity Game

Sun Jul 12, 2009, 6:47 PM
Alright, so I was kinda bored and thinking of a good idea for a journal survey. I was fiddling with some sort of music album idea when a memory of the past gave me an even better idea. Back in sixth grade I sat at a lunch table where I didn't really know anyone, and the more I talked to them, the more I realized that we had practically nothing in common. Because there was nothing to talk about we got pretty bored pretty fast (kind of like I was before I thought of this, lol). So one day, and I don't know who came up with it, we starting passing around a piece of paper and doodling on it. One person would draw a small doodle, then pass the paper to the next person and they would add another. The fun came in the fact that the doodles weren't random, but each one related to the one before it. After a few rounds around the table we had a rather elaborate story on our hands, mostly involving our doodles killing one another, lol. Because of the simple fun, I've decided to bring this game to DA, I call it the Creativity Game. It's a rather apt title because it only demands your creativity. Although I know you guys, as well as myself, posses some pretty good artistic skill, I'm not asking for you to express that skill here (and you'll certainly see that when you look at my starting doodle, lol). Anyway, this game does have some rules that I'd like to outline so it goes smoothly.

1. Leaving your art skills behind isn't just a suggestion for this, it's kind of a must. When you add a doodle, you have to take into account size/space on the image. I've made the actual image fairly large so that lots of doodles can be added. That being said, try not to take up too much room. Like I said, keep it simple and you really shouldn't have a problem there.

2. With rule 1 in mind, I'd also like to specify that, if you do require more room, you may certainly change the size of the image by adding the doodles to a larger canvas, that's totally fine. However, and this is a big however, image size is limited by computer performance. If your computer has alot of memory then it can process larger images. However, for those that don't have much memory, editing a very large image could lead to "lagging" of sorts and ultimately make the editing process much harder on that person. So, don't make the image too large, it's already pretty big. I can tell you that going beyond 3000x3000 (pixels) brings up a warning on my computer, so just take that into account.

3. This is simply a matter of preference, if you doodle yourself, try to make it look like you. For example, I added my hairstyle to my doodle, so I think you can tell it's me, lol. However, you could also just make a stick figure in a certain color and specify that as you. Whatever works. Just don't be afraid to add yourself to the image, honestly it'd probably be more interesting that way, lol.

4. Try not to significantly alter a doodle that's already there. I was going to make the rule so that you simply couldn't alter any previous doodle at all. However, I think some alterations are good. For example, my doodle is just standing there now, but if he were to be getting hit by a car in the next image, that would be fine, lol. I just don't want anyone to totally erase someone else's doodle, cause that's just not very fun for others.

5. When someone submits a new doodle and you view it, make sure to add a comment and call dibs on the next doodle. That way only one person can add a doodle to that particular image at one time, ensuring that we have no double submissions. However, if you've just done a doodle, don't claim it. I just want to make sure everyone gets a chance to go.

The next rules regard uploading your doodle

6. When you upload it, make sure you save your edit in .jpg (jpeg) format. This format is pretty much universally accepted, so everyone should be able to use it.

7. Make sure to enable "download original image" when you upload the picture to DA. Also make sure you don't add a watermark or copyright constraints.

8. When you upload the doodle make sure you name it Creativity Game X. The X will be whatever number your doodle is. For example, my doodle, the first one, is Creativity Game 1. So the next person should do Creativity Game 2. This ensures that we keep going in the right order.

9. For the sake of convenience and organization, submit all of these doodles into a folder in your gallery labeled "Creativity Game" that way it doesn't clutter your normal gallery and people can find them much easier.

So yeah, for your enjoyment ^_^ Hope this idea doesn't crash and burn, but it certainly could, lol.

heh, you're welcome. I saw your Daily Deviation and thought it was really cool, like there was some deep meaning and a story behind it. So I started reading your comic. Honestly, at first, I was really confused how ANY of it related to the Daily Deviation, lol. But after reading a few pages, I actually got more, I guess you could say "attached" to the story, and just kept reading. I wouldn't buy it or anything (and I mean no offense by that) but it definitely captivated me for a good 45 minutes, and that's quite an accomplish for an artist such as yourself. So good job on the comic. It's the very reason I decided to watch you (that sounds reallyyy creepy, lol) because I want to see more of it.

Well actually, not so much into your older stuff. However, I do really like the last 2 or 3 things that you've posted. They're very good wallpapers, and while good art isn't rare on DA, good wallpapers kinda are. So I decided to watch you (god that sounds weird) in the hopes that you'll keep putting up good stuff. Basically, what I'm saying is, you're doing a good job, keep it up ^_^ lol.
